When ADL asks governments to respond to anti-Semitism, at the top of the list is to clearly, consistently, and publicly denounce anti-Jewish incidents.
French Prime Minister Manuel Valls fulfilled that responsibility with passionate and compelling remarks to the French National Assembly on January 13, just days after the murder of four Jewish hostages at the Hyper Cacher kosher supermarket in Paris.
When we saw the video, we knew we had to share it widely. This is the kind of speech we wish all leaders would give – a clarion call to combat anti-Semitism. The French government is preparing new legislative and administrative measures to address anti-Semitism in France and re-establish security and a sense of confidence for the French Jewish community. This speech was a vital first step.
