In partnership with the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program, the Anti-Defamation League hosted distinguished French community and political leader Maguy Saloman, Director of the Louis Delgres Cultural Center and councilperson for the city of Nantes, France.
Ms. Saloman shared her unique personal story about growing up biracial and tracing her heritage to both slaves and slave traders. Her background inspired her work at the cultural center, building bridges between diverse communities in Nantes. The State Department sponsored Ms. Saloman’s first visit to the U.S., offering her the opportunity to further her personal and professional interests by meeting with organizations that deal with intercultural communication and conflict, including ADL.
Staff and board members shared ADL’s expertise in cross-cultural communication and combating bigotry. The group discussed ADL’s civil rights agenda in legislatures, courtrooms and communities in the region; anti-bias educational initiatives like No Place for Hate and the A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute; relationships with law enforcement; and responses to anti-Semitic and other bias incidents.
ADL Philadelphia has hosted international leaders through the State Department’s program several times, including leaders from Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Iraq and other North African and Middle Eastern countries.
The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
