Philadelphia, PA, November 18, 2013 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) expressed concern over allegations that African-American employees at a Philadelphia based Amtrak office were taunted with a noose by a fellow employee.
“Nooses symbolize a shameful, hateful, criminal era in American history, and should never be tolerated or treated casually,” said Barry Morrison, ADL Regional Director. “The use of a noose must be taken seriously and a clear message must be sent that such behavior is unacceptable in our community. We urge Amtrak to take appropriate measures to investigate and respond to this unfortunate episode.”
The Anti-Defamation League has been in contact with Amtrak officials in response to this incident. Corporations, small businesses, government agencies, nonprofit organizations and professional groups can turn to the League when faced with the challenges of managing a diverse workforce.
The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and discrimination.
