WPVI-TV Philadelphia news anchor Jim Gardner will be master of ceremonies at March 29 event in Wilmington
Philadelphia, PA, January 10, 2017 – The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today announced the establishment of the ADL Beau Biden SHIELD Award, honoring law enforcement in eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware. The award is named after the late Delaware Attorney General Joseph R. “Beau” Biden, III, who has been hailed as a tireless advocate for civil and human rights.
The award recognizes local, state and federal officers who have made strides against hate in the tri-state region, including: combating hate groups, extremism and terrorism; preventing and/or responding to hate crimes and bias-motivated activity; and promoting civil rights.
“Beau was honored to work side-by-side with law enforcement officers to protect those most in need of help,” said Hallie Biden, widow of Beau Biden. “We’re honored that an organization as important to Beau as the ADL is recognizing the work these officers do every day.”
The inaugural awards ceremony will be held Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at the Chase Riverfront in Wilmington. WPVI-TV Philadelphia news anchor Jim Gardner will be master of ceremonies for the awards program.
“Beau Biden was a champion for the most vulnerable,” said Nancy K. Baron-Baer, Philadelphia ADL regional director. “The ADL Beau Biden SHIELD Award will recognize the brave officers in the region who have honored his memory through protecting those who cannot protect themselves.”
ADL is the foremost non-governmental organization in the United States training law enforcement on terrorism, extremism, and hate crimes. In the past 10 years, ADL has trained well over 100,000 federal, state, local and military law enforcement officers.
