COUNCIL ROCK SCHOOLS — Council Rock High School North received its “No Place For Hate” designation from the Philadelphia Anti-Defamation League during a ceremony Wednesday morning at the Newtown Township school.

“Today was an extremely important day for the students of Council Rock North to affirm their commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for themselves and their peers,” said Council Rock North teacher Sarah Huskin, who helped coordinate the program at the school.

To earn the distinction, Council Rock North formed a No Place For Hate committee, adopted a resolution pledging to create a more inclusive school and implemented a number of projects promoting respect for differences.

Among those projects was the painting of a diversity mural in the cafeteria representing the importance of diversity and inclusion. Also, a No Place For Hate homeroom series was held during which students watched anti-bias and anti-bullying themed videos and then discussed them with their peers. In addition, Council Rock North participated in No Place For Hate Library Month during which the school library acquired and featured books about bullying and diverse cultures.

Council Rock North is one of more than 200 schools and organizations across eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware participating in the No Place For Hate program, Anti-Defamation League officials said. Jeremy Bannett, assistant project director for the No Place For Hate program, presented school officials with a banner during the ceremony.

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
