ANTI-DEFAMATION LEAGUE COMMENDS GOV. CORBETT FOR SUPPORTING NON-DISCRIMINATION BILL

  • December 20, 2013

Philadelphia, December 20, 2013 – The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) commended Gov. Corbett for his support of House Bill 300. HB 300 and its Senate counterpart, SB 300, amends the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act by prohibiting discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodation on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.

“We commend Governor Corbett’s support of HB 300/SB 300, the state’s non-discrimination bill,” said Joshua Cohen, Associate Director of  the Anti-Defamation League’s Eastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey and Delaware Regional Office. “His leadership should move the issue forward in a way that is long overdue,” added Cohen.

HB 300 and its counterpart in the Senate, SB 300, have broad bipartisan support among legislators, businesses, and voters. Currently, 23 states and 33 Pennsylvania municipalities have nondiscrimination laws that include sexual orientation and gender identity.

Cohen continued, saying, “Discriminating on the basis of one’s sexual orientation or gender identity is just as offensive and demeaning as any other type of discrimination. HB/SB 300 sends a clear message to employers, landlords, educators and the community that discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity or expression is impermissible.”
