Philadelphia, PA, March 6, 2013…The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) welcomed the sentencing of Mark Trail, who pleaded guilty to ethnic intimidation charges last summer after attacking Jewish campers at Camp Bonim, a Jewish summer camp in Clinton Township. On three occasions last summer, Trail and four others drove through Camp Bonim at high speed, destroying property, shouting racial slurs and shooting paint balls at campers.
“The summer camp experience should never include threats of violence and intimidation” said Barry Morrison, Regional Director, ADL of Eastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, and Delaware. “Mr. Trail’s sentencing sends an important message that anti-Semitic attacks on the community are unacceptable.”
ADL worked with the community and law enforcement immediately following the incident to deter future hate-fueled acts. The League encouraged increased police patrols at area camps and urged camps in the area to consider preventative security measures.
The Anti-Defamation League has also made itself available to the Foundation for Jewish Camp by offering trainings on security as well as programmatic services with their Confronting Anti-Semitism, peer training and diversity training programs.
The Anti-Defamation League is one of the nation’s premier civil rights/human relations agencies fighting anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry, defending democratic ideals and protecting civil rights for all.
