ADL Recognizes Lansdowne’s Diversity Efforts

  • July 30, 2013

LANSDOWNE — Mayor Jayne Young announced during this month’s board meeting that the borough had been selected as the winner of the 2013 Barry Morrison Courageous Conversations Award given by the Anti-Defamation League.

This award is given every year to select communities or schools that have demonstrated originality and effort to encourage residents to engage in a dialogue about diversity through No Place for Hate.

No Place for Hate is an initiative of the ADL that was founded in 2001. NPFH’s mission is to help communities end racism and create appreciation for diversity. The award was created and named after Barry Morrison, the ADL’s former regional director for more than 30 years.

The borough met the requirements to receive this award through their efforts of holding monthly activities and events that practice the importance of diversity and the fight against racism. The Lansdowne Library offers free films concerning these topics on a monthly basis.

The award was accepted by Young and Don Verlanden at the ADL meeting in Philadelphia.
