Philadelphia, PA, April 8, 2016 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today expressed its gratitude to Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, who yesterday signed two executive orders eliminating anti-LGBT discrimination against employees and contractors under the Governor’s purview.
“We offer our heartfelt thanks to Governor Wolf for expanding non-discrimination protections for LGBT Pennsylvanians,” said Nancy K. Baron-Baer, ADL Regional Director. “At a time when states across the nation have been assaulting LGBT rights, Governor Wolf has positioned Pennsylvania on the right side of history. Thanks to these executive orders, Pennsylvania is an important step closer to upholding the civil rights of all our citizens.”
“While we take this moment to thank the Governor and recognize progress, we cannot forget that LGBT Pennsylvanians can still legally lose their jobs, be evicted from their homes, and denied services. It is imperative that the Legislature pass the PA Fairness Act, to permanently and completely ban anti-LGBT discrimination in Pennsylvania. We urge all Pennsylvanians to email their legislators to demand the passage of the PA Fairness Act.”
ADL has championed LGBT rights for decades, advocating at local and national levels in support of anti-discrimination statutes, strong and inclusive hate crime and bullying prevention laws, and marriage equality. The League is also a national leader in anti-bias education, and promotes LGBT rights through student and educator trainings, classroom lessons, and parent resources.
The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is dedicated to fighting anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry.
