Philadelphia, PA, September 10, 2014 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today applauded Temple University officials, local law enforcement, and the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office for their investigations in connection with the assault of a Jewish student at Temple University. Charges have been filed against Temple University student Abdel Aziz Jalil for allegedly assaulting another Temple University student, Daniel Vessal, during Templefest on August 20.
Nancy Baron-Baer, ADL Philadelphia Regional Director, issued the following statement:
“We applaud the University, law enforcement, and Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office for taking these allegations seriously and for the important progress made in this investigation. We will continue to work with law enforcement and the University as the investigation continues. We want to ensure that measures are taken to create an environment in which students from a wide range of religious and cultural backgrounds can have exchanges grounded in mutual respect.”
ADL regularly works with universities and campus law enforcement to provide resources, support, and training to ensure that any form of bias, harassment, or intimidation is not tolerated and properly addressed on campus.
The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
